How to edit a PDF for free

1. Open the editor and choose your PDF.

What you can do

What it can't do

It does not rewrite the words that are already in the PDF. To change existing text you can cover it and type over it, or convert the PDF to Word with our PDF to Word tool. The Cover tool also hides text under a white box rather than deleting it, so don't use it to hide private details.

Three ways to change text that is already in a PDF

1. Cover and retype: use the Cover tool to hide the old words, then add new text on top.
2. Convert to Word: use PDF to Word, edit the document, then save it as a PDF again.

Tips for filling in forms

• Zoom in before placing text so it sits neatly on the line.
• For scanned forms, add text boxes on top of the printed lines.
• Check the finished PDF before you send it, then keep a copy.
